Franco Aprile drives new air bridge between Liguria and Poland

The Italian Embassy in Warsaw hosted the official presentation of three new flight routes launched by Wizz Air from Genoa to Warsaw, Krakow, and Budapest. At the heart of the event was Franco Aprile, President of Horizon Consulting Network and President of AICE Poland, who promoted the initiative in collaboration with Genoa Airport and Spediporto Genova.

The event, held under the patronage of ICE Warsaw and opened by the Italian Ambassador to Poland, Luca Franchetti Pardo, showcased the ambitious €100 million investment plan for Genoa’s Cristoforo Colombo Airport. This strategic infrastructure development aims to double the airport’s passenger capacity—from 1.5 million to 3 million annually—and position Genoa as a central player in the European tourism and logistics landscape.

“Connecting Genoa with a country experiencing such significant social and economic growth as Poland has been a long-standing goal of mine. This achievement marks the first concrete system-level initiative led by AICE Poland since our founding just a year ago,” said Franco Aprile during his remarks. He emphasized the strategic value of strengthening economic, logistical, and tourism links between Italy and Poland, which currently share a bilateral trade volume of €36 billion.

As a seasoned leader in strategic consulting and international economic relations, Aprile views his role at AICE Poland as a mission to build not only physical, but also institutional and commercial bridges between the two countries. “Italy is more than just Rome and Milan. Genoa, with its maritime heritage, cruise tourism, and industrial ecosystem, is a natural gateway to Southern Europe. These new direct connections are key steps toward giving the city the international recognition it deserves,” Aprile concluded.

The announcement was well-received by Polish institutional representatives, tour operators, and economic stakeholders, underlining the growing interest in Genoa and Liguria as destinations for both tourism and business. Flights from Genoa to Warsaw will begin on May 1st, operating three times a week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays), followed by flights to Krakow starting May 17th with the same schedule.
